Best Shot Monday

This past week was "Battle of the Flowers", a Fiesta celebration in San Antonio. The schools celebrate and are off for the day to commemorate this event..... The idea for the first Battle of Flowers Parade was conceived early in 1891 by the wife of a congressman who had seen a similar parade in Spain. She suggested to her friends that a flower parade should be held in San Antonio each year on April 21 in memory of the fallen heroes at the Alamo and to commemorate the victory at the Battle of San Jacinto, April 21, 1836, where Texas had gained its independence from Mexico.

The first parade had an actual "flower battle" with half of the fresh-flower-covered carriages, floats and bicycles going in one direction and the other half going in the opposite direction, tossing fresh flowers at each other as they passed.

Here is Bella, carrying her float (which she had to decorate for a homework assignment) in their school parade to honor "Battle of the Flowers"...
A special thank you to Nan-E for her expertise in decorating Mardi Gras floats. Nan-E assisted Bella in getting her float put together and she even taught Bella how to make paper tissue flowers!

Senior Pictures (hehe)

As we were driving home from Canton this past weekend, we stopped ON THE HIGHWAY to take pics in those infamous Texas Bluebonnets. We joked about this being our Senior moment Picture pose and how funny it would be to use them as our Facebook Profiles, haha.

Roughing It for Best Shot Monday

Bella was such a trooper. From the minute we arrived at our "camp", she was suited up and ready for fishing. Never mind that it was 37 degrees and a little windy, she was ALL IN for a jam packed weekend filled with good times.
(side note: Bella wanted to bring the worms home with us....that girl catches lizards and plays with worms.....SO NOT like me in that category)

Lexie was the only one in our crew that caught a fish. She was so elated....Way to go Lexie...You show them boys how it is done, girl!

A "retired" tractor makes for a great photo opt...

Sitting on the wall of the "Reflection Pond", thankfully, the only thing that got a "close up" of the pond was one of Bella's boots....

The Guadalupe River

Hiking Sticks are necessary to ward off....uh, fish?

T-bone is showing the girls a GREAT TIME on the river....Thank you so much for a wonderful weekend. We love you!

Hey, it didn't rain, but our new "rain boots" got a lot of wear and were a big hit with the girls.

Here we are.....ROUGHING IT!
You can click on any of the photographs for a larger view.
I think my Favorite Shot is the one of the girls with their reflection in the pond...What is yours?

Best Shot Monday

In all it's glory, this is my Best Shot.

It is an oldie, but a goodie. I took this shot in January 2007.

I had the flu, in a hotel, 1000 miles from home, and Lexie had the flu too.....T-bone had given me 3 gerber daisies and a cup of soup.

I stumbled upon this beauty (it was taken in the bathroom light) and somehow, in the midst of all that darkness and sickness, I was able to enjoy this beautiful, bright, natural stem of purity.

It is just a reminder that even in our darkest hour, there is always something beautiful in life to LOVE.

Best Shot Monday

On a See-Saw, I got this shot of Lexie and I love it. She was being a trooper, she had a low grade fever and her eyes were dilated. These are her "Stevie Wonder" frames....

Lexie had an allergic reaction to the dye and her pupils stayed dilated for 36 hours! Poor baby....and yes, the result of her eye exam was a prescription for glasses. I will post pics of her sporting her new frames soon....They are sooooo cute!!! (hint: Princess)

Best Shot Monday

This summer has been about spending a lot of time enjoying my girls. There have been many trips to various places. We are trying to jam pack our summer with great memories, since Bella starts Kindergarten in August and our fall/winter traveling will cease. So far, our making memories summer has been a huge success. We have been to Disney World, the beach, to see friends back in Florida, involved in the Miss America pageant, hosted Grandma and Grandpa at our home for Independence Day, attended Princess Camp, hung out with friends in Houston and then Bella got to spend her first week away from home, with her Grandparents, Nan-e and Pa-k.

We have heard captivating stories, sang songs, read books, done puzzles....

We have even caught lizards and gotten butterfly kisses.

Best Shot Monday

Tooth-LESSSSS

Bella lost her first tooth on the bottom.

It was very exciting and emotional for me. Not only did she lose her first tooth, that same day, she left for a week to stay with Nan-E. I couldn't help but be a little emotional. My big girl is really growing up. She starts kindergarten in a month! Bella is adjusting just fine, as for me, well, I am in therapy :)

Another part of the emotion is that this little monkey,
my baby, turns 4 in 2 days.

Blue Balls.

I use these miracle balls for my back, they have magnets in them that help relieve pain. Lexie has a good sense of humor, that girl!

Best Shot Monday

We went to an event for T-bone's company this weekend and part of the festivities included face painting. T-bone was working, so he got his hand painted (to indulge the girls).
My favorite shot is this first one of Lexie.

(Come back tomorrow to see how bad this picture was until I edited it. Got a new book, it is AWESOME! Tell ya about it tomorrow...)

I also LOVE this one of T-bone (even though he hyper criticized it), don't tell him I told ya. The boyish grin on his face, and his sexy eyes. Oooh, it just gets me fired up! Uhem, and well, back to Best Shot Monday....

I am also including one of Bella, her face is so sweet and peaceful. It calms me!
