Built on granite rock in the Channel, St. Malo has all the appeal of a beach resort, with warm brown sand and crystal blue green water. The long stretches of sand coupled with rocks and smaller islands makes St. Malo a real treasure. The town offers fresh produce, cheese, fish, household items, handmade crafts, fashions and more..
The peninsula curves around a natural harbor that is surrounded by several smaller basins. The walled city radiates outward from the town's centerpiece, called the Cathedrale St. Vincent. This town was virtually rebuilt after suffering great damage during World War II. When the tide lowers on one area of the peninsula, you can literally walk through the water from St. Malo to another island close by. Another of the nearby islands is said to have mines that remain on it from the war. The waters surrounding St. Malo are light emerald green and are colored with sailboats and yachts. We sat at a bar on the water and watched the Police force do their water safety training, for hours...which was a necessary part of our sightseeing tour... I'm just sayin'.
