Welcome to North Western France....
We are in Cancale on Brittany’s Côte d’Emeraude, founded somewhere in the 6th century. At the ancient fishing port, you can watch the fishermen unloading their catches, hauling oysters in crates on flatbed trailers and tending to their nets. You can even sit along the shoreline and taste the fresh oysters that are being retrieved from the oyster beds below. Fresh, salty, almost gooey texture of an oyster, straight out of the shell...like something you see on HGTV's Food Finds.
Just along the shoreline are hundreds of acres of oyster beds, many of the buildings on the waterfront are restaurants where you can enjoy fresh shellfish. I really loved how quaint this town was, nestled in the side of a stone like hill, with the serene glass like water at sunset. It was truly a flawless setting to have dinner and set sail into the evening.
After dinner, we took a stroll down the boardwalk, along the seafront where this quaint town seems to be sheltered from the strong winds and currents that are a distinct characteristic of the North Breton Coastline....just look at our pictures from Normandy to see what a strong gust of wind looks like on the Northern banks of France.
