So, the thing is.....we have an H.O.a in our neighborhood, like most Texas neighborhoods do. Well, ours allows fences to be stained, but only 3 colors, only from Home Depot and mostly, well, they are all undertones of orange. To back up my story just a bit, we have lived in this home for almost a year, and the only thing we have ever gotten from our HOA, are dues. We have never gotten a welcome packet, a coffee mug, a letter saying that their are certain stain colors for fences and layouts for landscape approval, etc...
Back to my story.
So, we stained our fence a color that compliments our home. We did this back in June. We have gotten LOADS of compliments on it too.
Well, we get a letter in August saying that we have to put our fence back into "compliance" (aka - Home Depot orange stain) or we will be charged a fine of $25/day. Our options, power wash and remove the current color OR replace the fence. (um, have you priced a fence for a corner lot?)...
Honestly, I am NO GOOD at politics. I LOATHE them.....a very strong feeling.
Here's the B-I-aaach of it all, we had professionals stain our fence, we bought a LOT of stain and waited for the best of the best to come out and stain our fence..... Now, T-bone has to roll on a stripper, wait 10 minutes, power wash it and remove that lovely cocoa brown because some PUTZ in the neighborhood complained.
My beef with it all is that we have had the fence stained for 3 months before it suddenly became so offensive to ONE, maybe TWO people. So, I ask you, what makes their orange better than our brown?
Now you know why our fence is orange. ;)
ReplyDeleteha ha. Whomever complained did it because they didn't think to paint their fence a different color FIRST! ;)
ReplyDeleteTwo words: Contest It.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a very neutral shade of BROWN to me! That just stinks!
ReplyDeleteFight it. Go to the H.o. meeting and fight it. What are they going to do put you in Jail?
ReplyDeleteChange the rules dont let the rules change you.
It's pretty much what HOA's are for... taking your money and making crazy rules - and occassionaly making someone cut their grass. Rediculous... your fense looks great!!
ReplyDeleteI like the brown much better than an orange. We could never live in a neighborhood with a HOA. We would not fair well at all. We don't like others telling us how to maintain our home.
ReplyDeleteI Accidentally happened upon your blog from some cool soccer mom cooking site. Read a little - felt guilty for prying into someone's life, and then realized - "hey, it's on the internet!" So I read more....
ReplyDeleteWhat a darling family, cute kids, manly hubby, etc...
Sorry about the fence - had a H.O like that once, moved out into the woods of Northern Wisconsin to get away!!
I agree to protest - but found out myself the hard way - that it made no difference in the end :(
Good Luck!! -and thanks for a fun family blog that makes me & wifey realize that we are not the only ones who have experiences like these... :-)
((ps - love the domino neckwear - these would go over great with our church Youthgroup girls!!))
