The BUCK stops here..

Literally! Our neighborhood has so many deer hanging around. On Sunday, Tim was SO excited to see the "rack on this one".... He was right on the hill by our house. We put out a block of feed and a bag of apple corn for them. Hey, we are invading their homes, feeding them and watching them in their natural habitat is the least we can do, right? Especially since where this buck stands is where our street will continue (kind of sad when you think about it)...
For now, though, the buck stops here!

On Saturday, we went to a drive through safari. It was great. We had been to one in the Dallas area when Bella was 2 and we loved it. This time, we knew from our previous experience, to close our windows when the ostrich and emu's were near. They will peck at you, your car, eat your children....ok, not really...but they will take your Starbuck's, and believe me, an ostrich on caffeine is not a pretty site....(kind of like me)
While at the park in Dallas, 3 years ago, Tim dropped some food in his lap and the ostrich was taking his pecker and trying to get at, well, you know what I am saying...a little game of duck duck goose...It was hilarious. So, this time, Tim opened the sun roof and threw the food over my car to these strange looking birds. After he closed the sunroof, the birds were eyeballing us through the sunroof, talk about bizarre. I felt interchanged. Now, we were being studied, similar to being in an aquarium. I wonder what the ostrich were saying about us..."strange looking birds and what kind of feathers are those?"

When the zebra came along, I told Tim to feed them by hand. I said, don't worry, it is a lot like feeding horses. Lay your hand flat, don't worry, it is a little wet and it tickles. A side note about Tim, he doesn't like horses. I grew up with horses, so, not a lot of fear here. Anyhow, he did NOT care for the way it "tickled". The zebra were sticking their entire heads into our car and opening their mouths for food, it was great. Tim was chucking pellets of food into their mouths. When some of the food dropped in Tim's lap, he had a flashback and started to move the car along before the zebra got any wise ideas. Bella decided she wanted to feed the baby zebra from her hands, as did Lexie. They did a great job and giggled the whole time. The last little zebra was overzealous about his hand feeding and chomped on Bella's little pinky. It was a scrape, nothing major, but Bella, being a drama mama, left messages for everyone about how "she got bit by a zebra". Our family was calling back saying "WHAT???, A zebra?, is this a joke?"....We also had buffalo walking by our car, now that is a strange site. I kept thinking, please don't get mad, please don't get mad....cuz I am thinking that they could roll my SUV if they were ticked off enough. I said "oh, nice buffalo, ta-tonka, good boy, move along, there you go"...whew, no SUV rolling to report. Pictures coming soon, only had a film camera with me and that is an act of congress in itself. Take the camera in, develop the film, go in and pick it up...Have I mentioned how much I LOVE DIGITAL? geez...
Happy Monday!

  1. It's so funny because when we lived in this neighborhood before, we were one of the first houses. So we would see deer and coyotes all the time!! Now our new house is right smack dab where the forest was! Really sad sometimes about how fast civilization moves in on these critters!
