A few years ago, at Christmas, Tim and I bought a few turkeys and delivered them to the Men's Shelter in Mckinney, Texas. It was the best feeling in the world to deliver food for people that needed a warm meal, or many.
Last year, we adopted a family through our church and bought them things that they were in need of....like sheets, a pan to cook food in...etc.
We take for granted, we all do, the most simple of things that offer us comfort on a daily, minute by minute, basis. For example, a light bulb. Ever go upstairs at night and the electricity goes out? Even though you know your house back and forward, you still get an eerie feeling, don't ya? It's the simple things.
I hope that you have the spirit to make a difference this holiday, even if it is just for ONE person. A simple gift, or gesture might be monumental for the recipient....(go ahead, I double dog dare you....and tell me that the feeling you get from doing this great deed isn't better than any gift you might get from under your tree).
I've got SPIRIT yes I do, I've got SPIRIT, how about you ???
coming tomorrow: Bella gets bit by a zebra....
"From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked." Luke 12:48
ReplyDeleteIsn't it wonderful that our Lord created us to have the most wonderful feelings when we focus on others even though it is required of us as well!
I agree with Jodi--make it a year round event! We try to have a special project once a week that focues on someone outside of our family who needs some loving. Also, Jackson and a handful of his friends meet once a month to do small service project.
Look around and you'd be surprised by the multitude of opportunities to give back what God has blessed you with.
