The book is graphic, hard core and offers an unusual approach to getting "skinny". Be forewarned, the plethora of profanity is part of the authors way of holding your attention?
There has been a lot of controversy over this book, it's content, verbiage and graphic nature.
For me, personally, this book is raw and almost frightening. It definitely creates an awareness with an edginess.
For years, my Mom has advocated what some may think is an "extreme" way of life. Eating lots of vegetables, grains, fruits, nuts, practically no sugar, no dairy and very little meat intake, and only if it is organic meat...I have followed most of her advice, but I am a girl that likes a juicy burger and a big cold coke....well, I did anyhow.
If you don't know much about "SB", the authors endorse "Vegan-ism" as the only way to lose weight and be truly healthy. What I have gotten out of this book is how much chemical intake, antibiotics, pesticides and other harmful ingredients are in foods that we indulge in daily. This book, for me, educates those of us that think we are eating healthy ingredients and providing the same for our children.
When I first saw the book at Target, I was appalled at it's title. I only bought it because I had heard that it's content was stark, humorous and informative. All of which is very true. These girls call out the FDA, The Atkins Diet and more. Where I would shy away from that kind of blatant bashing, these authors indulge in it.
However, I do encourage you to pick up a copy and take away what you can from the book. I cleaned out my pantry, my refrigerator and freezer. I got rid of the unnecessary, empty caloried, poisonous ingredients that needed to go anyhow, and not on my thighs. As a result, I am tired, starving and cranky...but hey, at least I will be skinny (just kidding). I am not ready to go all the way vegetarian, but after what I have read, I am only doing organic meats and not very often...Hey, out of sight out of mind....Hopefully, the parts of my body that have always been a challenge for me will look a lot better as a result of my changes. (FYI- just because someone is skinny doesn't mean they are healthy or don't have fat)
As with any change, there is an acclamation period for getting into a "new groove". Here is hoping for a healthier inside, a hot looking outside and some fun along the way...
I have that book and have read part of it. It was loaned to me by a Vegan friend. It's very interesting.
ReplyDeleteGood for you--I don't think I could do it!
