Yesterday, I was getting a pedicure when this lady says "WOW, I love your earrings!". I say, "oh thank you, My Mom made them".
5 minutes later, same lady approaches me and says "I am doing a makeover contest and would love to enter you in it"....."Would you be interested in doing that for me? It is with Mary Kay".
Standard answer: "I am allergic".
Standard response: (head slightly tilted in their most sincere voice) "Have you tried Mary Kay recently?"
Standard answer: "Yes"
Standard response....she puts her cards back in her purse (while probably thinking, "her earrings weren't that cute anyhow!")
De-ja-vu! Same conversation happened in Target about 6 months ago, except preluding with a "I just moved here and am trying to build my business....do you know of anyone.....?"
My response, "OH, I JUST MOVED HERE TOO! Where did YOU move from?"
Then, as CHANCE would have it, phone rings today looking for someone NOT AT THIS PHONE NUMBER....the lady interrupts and says "OH, well can I ask you, would you be interested in a free makeover from Mary Kay?"...I kid you not, I SWEAR it was the same lady, same voice and my number is unlisted.
Some may take this as a "sign" to sell Mary Kay.....
I take it as a sign to make a better effort at looking more like white trash in public!
When I lived in Denver in 1995, I had a woman approach me at the mall with that EXACT same makeover line...Instead of earrings, it started with some, "Have you ever modeled...BS" Wow, you would think that after 12 years, they would have a new pick-up line! :) HAHAHA! Oh well, it must work on some...of the "cult loving" fashion...Mary Kay is one giant pink Pyramid like it's cousin AMWAY. hahaha!
ReplyDeleteOh, I can't stand that! I had someone do that when I first moved to Houston, and it made me so mad!
ReplyDeleteCome on now, can't a girl just enjoy her pedicure already?
