Tonight, I put Lexie to bed, like every other night. Only this night was slightly different. It still took an hour, there were the same 15 songs sang, the prayer said and my Award Winning "playing possum" to get her to fall asleep. What was different about this night was I sat on her little wooden chair, that only 1/2 of my rear end fits on. About 10 minutes into this ritual, my jeans begin to cut off my circulation. I think, uh oh...NO SUDDEN MOVEMENTS or she will open her eyes and the sands of time will only begin again...On a side note: I have a cold, so I need to cough, tears are welling up in an effort to hold it in. By the way, my legs are completely numb at this point. She is so close, Come on, hang in there, AAAH....I just can't take it. I cough, slip off of the chair and she is wide awake. SO NOW, she is rubbing my back and playing with my hair and singing softly to ME. Meanwhile, I am the one falling asleep.
Finally, things settle down. It's time to make my escape....Great, one leg has woken up, the other, still asleep, my hair is huge from her "making a nest" in it, I am coughing with my hand so tightly over my mouth that I am almost smothering myself and I'm incredibly "rested from my massage". All I can think of is if she wakes up....
She will see an Ogre with unusually BIG HAIR dragging one leg, hacking on a bone heading out her bedroom door...
Laughing to myself, I know if she wakes up, there is no doubt that she will never sleep again....
She looks so sweet & peaceful! You are such a good mommy to go through the rigamaroll every night!
ReplyDeleteThis cracks me up because I did it with both of my kiddos, especially with Jack. I would "fake sleep" and he would bust me leaving everytime! I finally had enough by Julia's first birthday and decided to tell her I needed to go and take a shower. Now, at 2 1/2 yrs, she will always say, "Goodnight Mommy! Are you taking a shower now?" It makes me laugh! Good luck with that cough!
